AIA COTE Sample Recycling

AIA COTE would appreciate your participation in a program to re-cycle
product samples as art material for student projects. Rather than
these excess and outdated materials going straight to a landfill, we
propose to collect and distribute these materials to schools for student
art projects. Product samples may consist of the following:

•Carpet samples (loose and large samples, NO books with glued samples)
•Fabric samples
•Wall covering samples
•Flooring samples (VCT, ceramic, vinyl, linoleum, wood, cork, etc.)
•Plastic Laminate samples
•Paint samples
•Glass samples
•Other appropriate samples (no individual items over 2 pounds)

Last February samples were dropped off at the Houston AIA office, A&E - The Graphics Complex 5 area locations, and at McCOY Workplace Solutions, by local architectural firms and product vendors. From these firms we collected approximately 320 Cubic Feet and 3.000 Pounds of product samples that were diverted from landfills and provided free art materials for local students and children. These materials were picked up by Houston ISD, Katy ISD, Spring ISD, Spring Branch ISD and Cy Fair ISD.  McCoy accepts donations year round for this event.

We wish to thank AIA-Houston and McCOY for the use of their facilities as collection points, A&E - The Graphics Complex for picking up donations, and The Green Building Resource Center as our distribution location.
