Interior Architecture Committee presents the ARTXEXCHANGE | ART AND DESIGN DISCUSSION PANEL at DLR Group. Featured artists, Louise  Nicholson-Carter, René Garza and Joseph Cohen all bringing different styles and perspectives will be presenting their art and talking about local, national and global future of art influencing interior architecture.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Louise Nicholson Carter

With over 35 years of experience, Louise Nicholson Carter is a nationally recognized interior designer and art consultant specializing in healthcare environments. As founding principal at Skyline Art Services, she creates outstanding art programs that integrate with architecture and meet the essential needs of patients and staff to experience healing art. Previously, she was the founding principal of Carter Design Associates, an award-winning healthcare interiors and architectural firm. Louise speaks publicly on the subject of integrating art and interior design in corporate environments and healthcare facilities, from hospitals to senior living. Louise is a founding member of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID), and is certified in Evidence-Based Design, an emerging field in patient-centered design that is changing the way architects and hospital directors understand the role of art in healthcare.

Joseph Cohen

Joseph Cohen was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Cohen received his MFA from the University of Texas in San Antonio, where he also taught undergraduate drawing, and received his BFA from Texas State University in San Marcos. Cohen’s art practice has afforded him the opportunity to travel the globe and take part in international projects, residencies, and exhibitions. Houston has been the artist’s home base for the last decade and over this time The Museum of Fine Arts Houston has acquired his artwork, he was awarded best in show at Lawndale’s Big Show, he has given presentations at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Menil Collection, and the Children’s Museum, along with many others.


Following the artist’s 2015 solo exhibition in New York at De Buck Gallery, Cohen began working with leading figures in the science and health industry. This led to an Artist in Residency program being created for Cohen at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York. Likewise, Cohen has been taken part in Artist in Residency programs at Rice University, and the Houston Methodist Research Institute, collaborating with researchers and scientists. For over three years Cohen has been working in Houston, New York, and Gaithersburg (MD) developing works from nanomaterials in an effort to develop a conversation between the two fields of Art and Science that goes beyond the superficial and fully integrates artist-researcher in ways never before seen.

Cohen is also the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Davis Cohen Art, a full-service art advisory and appraisal firm.

 

Rene Garza

Rene Garza, is a New York based Artist that is in residency in Houston, TX where he was raised. Garza has spent over 15 years as a fashion and celebrity stylist traveling the world in a business ruled by visceral aesthetics. Using this time to create a body of work that reflects his long standing love of conceptual art. As an artist in many mediums, Garza notes his inspirations usually comes from travel, minimalism, geometry, dark gothic and romanticism.Garza currently has a public art installation in Houston, Texas called "A Moment" that covers an entire building's facade and is meant to inspire calmness in our busy lives. "A Moment" follows up the exhibition of a drawing of graphite on paper at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
