Consolidating Control Layer Design

This program is designed to provide the design community with knowledge of the four building envelope control layers (thermal, moisture, air, and vapor), NFPA 285 testing, differences between common insulation types, and to use this information to consolidate envelope design for steel stud walls and mass walls.

Learning Objectives

  1. Thermal Control Layer - Understand the definition, code, building science, and interrelationships
  2. Moisture Control Layer - Understand the definition, code, building science, and interrelationships
  3. Air Control Layer - Understand the definition, code, building science, and interrelationships
  4. Vapor Control Layer - Understand the definition, code, building science, and interrelationships
  5. Understand the NFPA 285 test, its history, and its intent
  6. Understand differences between insulation types
  7. Learn options for how to consolidate the control layer design for steel stud walls and mass walls

About the Presenter

Victoria Raineri graduated from Penn State with a master’s degree in architectural engineering and a focus on structural design. As a Building Envelope Specialist in sales for Dow Building Solutions, she works closely with architects and contractors to implement energy saving solutions.
