Description

This 4-hour interactive workshop, led by a nationally recognized expert in small firm practice and author of The Architect's Guide to Small Firm Management,  presents strategies for business planning within the
current environment of unpredictability, including case studies illustrating best practices.
Participants will learn about the major components of a business plan—purpose,
finance, marketing, and operations—and practical techniques for plan development and
implementation.

The workshop includes short lectures and numerous opportunities for participants to
discuss and to apply the content material. Topics covered include the life cycle of a
typical small firm, why owners should plan, obstacles to planning, and how to implement
action plans. In general, business planning for small firms will be approached as a
process involving strategic thinking, rather than the creation of a static document.

Learning Objectives
1. Attendees will build skill in business planning through increased understanding of
management theory and its application to small firm practice.

2. Attendees will explore models, templates, and processes relating to business
planning in unpredictable and fast changing conditions.

3. Through case studies in emerging practice models, attendees will be introduced
to expanded possibilities for their small firms.

4. Through facilitated dialogue, attendees will exchange experiences and insights
about small firm business planning with colleagues
