Glenwood Cemetery, originally established in the early 1870s, holds historical significance in the City of Houston as the final resting location for numerous influential figures in Houston’s history. It has become a tourist destination over the years due to its picturesque, garden-style grounds, as well as for its rare glimpse into Houston’s founding generations. The new Glenwood Visitors Center will become a main gathering space for families, visitors, and the community alike – it will be used for funerary services, genealogy research, and as a gathering space for Houston’s local groups and civic organizations.

The Visitors Center will stand as a contemporary architectural gem that marries modern design with the rich, historical context of its surroundings. Because respect of the existing fabric was of utmost importance to the clients and the design team, the building is carefully integrated into the overall master plan, ensuring a seamless transition from the historical environment to the contemporary architecture. The Center, designed by Dillon Kyle Architects and constructed by Bellows Construction, was completed in September of 2023.
