Latinos in Architecture Symposium

This year's symposium honors the beautiful architecture, culture, food and wine of Argentina. Speakers include Fernando Brave, FAIA (Brave/Architecture, Houston); Victoria Goldstein, AIA (VG Studio, Houston), Marcela González Veloz (Oficio Taller, Mexico City); Gabriela Etchegaray (Ambrosi Etchegaray, Mexico City); María Inés Sicardi (Sicardi|Ayers|Bacino Gallery, Houston); Sebastian Abraham (Patagonia Grill); Sergio and Carolina Weitzman (SERCA wines); and Mauro Marcone (Tango Dancer). A portion of the sympoisum benfit the Latinos in Architecture Collegiate Scholarship and Mentorship Program

Argentinian Soirée with María Inés Sicardi and Victoria Goldstein, AIA

María Inés Sicardi, founding partner and director, will give a gallery overview and present the work of Gustavo Díaz, an Argentine artist who lives and works in Texas.  Díaz’s drawings investigate the behavior of complex systems and explore connections between disparate but related theories, seeking a balance between scientific concepts and poetic vision.

Victoria Goldstein, AIA will discuss her journey and practice, VG Studio based in Houston. VG Studio is a highly collaborative firm, working with architects, designers, and engineers internationally on projects ranging from parks to ‘petit residential architecture’. Selected projects include spectator and art spaces for the Downtown Jamail Skatepark in the Eleanor Tinsley Park, the “Tiny House” just outside of Downtown, and the Werner Center Art Gate in Los Angeles. Victoria is currently teaching at the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design at the University of Houston.

Latinos in Architecture invites you to Noche Argentina, an evening celebrating the history and culture of this wonderful country. Fernando Brave, FAIA, architect and University of Houston professor, will take us on an Argentinean journey ranging from its geography to its history, and from its diverse culture to its rich architecture. Fernando Brave will introduce us to his native country of Argentina. Sebastian Abraham, executive Chef and owner of Patagonia Grill will present traditional dishes of the regions of the country, from Buenos Aires and Catamarca to Patagonia and Mendoza. Sergio and Carolina Weitzman, president of SERCA wines, will take us to a journey of wine making in Argentina and share his secrets of making a great Malbec wine. Finally, we will end the evening with Tango, Mauro Marcone and his partner will delight us with their sensual dance and magically synchronized movements. Join us and taste a sample menu from Patagonia Grill, enjoy wines from Serca wines and learn about the Argentinean culture.
