The forum will include talks by Brian Zamora, Senior Associate (Gehry Partners), Silvia Chicas (Antena Houston), and Luisa Duarte (artist)

Brian Zamora, Senior Associate at Gehry Partners, an integral member and lead project designer of the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.  Frank Gehry was initially skeptical of working in Las Vegas when asked to design the Cleveland Clinic building.That changed once he met the enigmatic Larry Ruvo and understood his passion for doing better in brain related healthcare. Through this relationship, Huntington’s disease was added to the Ruvo Center’s program mission. Mr. Gehry is deeply involved with supporting research for Huntington’s disease.  There will also be a presentation of three additional Gehry projects which will focus on the cladding solution of these by the“block/brickwork pattern” design aesthetics and the different materials used brick, metal, and glass.

Silvia Chicas a founding member of Antena Houston, a language justice and language experimentation collaborative, focusing on writing, art- and book-making, translating, interpreting, and language justice. Antena explores how critical views on language can help us to reimagine and rearticulate the worlds we inhabit. Since 2011 Antena has been doing a wide array of projects and work at the intersections of language justice and language experimentation.

Luisa Duarte is a Venezuela born, Houston-based visual artist. These two worlds, and a diverse blend of cultures, have shaped her ideas and understanding of what constitutes ‘home.’ A vague sense of displacement, and, at times, an underlying yearning to ‘belong,’ has lead the artist to create imaginary spaces that appear to straddle multiple worlds, perspectives and forms.

Throughout her upbringing, Duarte was widely exposed to contemporary non-figurative art during a time when the Latin American geometrical abstraction, constructivism and kinetic art movements were at their peak. This aesthetic, and its push to create new ‘Utopian’ cultural spaces in opposition to mainstream politics and culture, loosely informed her professional practice as an architect, and currently continues to influence her practice as a visual artist.
