Material Transparency

Presented by Julie Hendricks and Colley Hodges

This 90-minute session will focus on the materials transparency movement, an initiative that has gained momentum beyond sustainable design circles and that is now impacting the broader design and construction industry. Through the incorporation of fun and interactive exercises, this session will address the AIA’s recent white paper on the topic as well as resources for locating, understanding, and utilizing material ingredient disclosure forms within your organization.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the major transparency initiatives for disclosing material ingredients and potential health hazards.
  2. Articulate the AIA’s basic stance on material transparency.
  3. Identify several legal cases that demonstrate an evolving understanding of the standard of care.
  4. Identify resources for interpreting material ingredient disclosure forms.

A boxed lunch is included with registration.

This session has been approved for 1.5 HSW AIA Learning Units.
