The people are the performance
RIOS design motto for Lynn Wyatt Square

Join us for a tour of Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts, a new cultural venue and green space surrounded by Jones Hall, Alley Theater, Bayou Place and the Bank of America Financial Center. Formerly known as Jones Plaza, the 1.5 acre’s transformation has created a hub for a more inviting, interconnected, accessible, and inclusive space.
Spearheaded by Houston First and designed by Los Angeles based RIOS, the park has undergone a major transformation. The once-underutilized plaza is now a vibrant oasis with expansive green spaces, a water feature, and seating areas. Through a collaboration with HarrisonKornberg architects, the park also features a two-story restaurant with timber roof, an amphitheater in a grassy knoll, and other flexible performance areas with public programming planned throughout the year.

Among the design highlights of the renovation is an emphasis on accessibility. The new design ensures full visual and physical accessibility on all corners of the square and the parking garage below. The redesign also addresses the environmental impact of the previously concrete-dominated space by adding hardy native plants and large mature shade trees to absorb rainwater and mitigate the urban heat island effect in downtown Houston.
