Brought to you by the Michael G. Meyers Design Competition

Become a part of the Michael G. Meyers Design & Scholarship Competition Committee and join us for a happy hour to celebrate the work of last year’s committee and to kick off the 2020 competition.

The annual scholarship competition, sponsored by Architecture Center Houston Foundation and AIA Houston, is an ideas competition with an emphasis on creative problem solving and graphic presentation. In previous years students have been asked to design a mix-use building in the Third Ward, a animal shelter, a high speed rail station and many other challenging projects. The committee chooses the project, writes the program, raises the  funds for the scholarships, and hosts a series of events to help the students learn basic architectural design skills and understand the competition requirements.

Planning begins in the Fall, the program kicks-off in January with student events and fundraising, and wraps up with an awards ceremony and exhibit in late Spring.

About Michael G. Meyers:
This committee is dedicated to the memory of Michael G. Meyers, a prominent Houston architect who passed away in 1988 at the age of 36. At the time, he was president-elect of the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and managing partner of Kirksey-Meyers Architects. According to his friend and business partner, John Kirksey,  FAIA, "Mike gave us a standard by which to measure our own lives, and by meeting that standard we will collectively keep Mike's spirit alive forever."
