Brought to you by the Michael G. Meyers Design Competition
Become a part of the Michael G. Meyers Design & Scholarship Competition Committee and join us for a happy hour to celebrate the work of last year’s committee and to kick off the 2022 competition. We will kick off the season on Thursday, July 22 at 6pm at Karbach Brewing. RSVP here.
The annual scholarship competition, sponsored by Architecture Center Houston Foundation and AIA Houston, is an ideas competition with an emphasis on creative problem solving and graphic presentation. In previous years students have been asked to design an education center with a focus on sustainability, mixed-use building in the Third Ward, an animal shelter and many other challenging projects. The committee chooses the project, writes the program, raises the funds for the scholarships, and hosts a series of events to help the students learn basic architectural design skills and understand the competition requirements.
MGMC 2020 and 2021 were memorable experiences for me. Like last year, I was able to expand my thought and design processes and enjoyed it a lot. Thank you so much to AIA Houston and ArCH for giving me the opportunity to compete and show my capabilities. It felt less like a competition but more of a creative outlet for me. I believe the program helps us students both financially and an insight of how college studios are like. I worked independently this year, but the virtual site tour made taking notes easy and effective.
I can't thank you and the board enough for the experience I had for the past three years, it's something I'll definitely look back to later on. Please send my gratitude to the judges if possible, their responses (and decision to choose me as the 1st place) made my day.
