Brought to you by the Women in Architecture
AIA Houston Emerging Professionals and Women in Architecture committees are partnering for an exciting mentorship event for young professionals in the AEC community. Join us for a panel with speakers from the industry with insight into early career experience and guidance on designing career paths.
Many emerging professionals are interested in a path to business leadership and “rainmaker” opportunities within large firms and even as a successful sole practitioner. This is often a requirement of firm leaders and principals in senior positions - maintain clients and bring in new business. As we grow in our careers, we often move from technical, project-focused roles to leadership and business development roles and roles that learn more heavily on soft skills, but the transition can be tricky and not well defined. Developing technical skills can sometimes be in opposition to developing successful client management skills.
How do emerging professionals interested in leadership prepare to make the jump from production and project responsibilities to client-facing responsibilities? What can current successful leaders offer as guidance and opportunity in order to help them get there? What’s the future of principals in architecture? Will business skills become more important in these roles?
