We're moving in February 2017 to the historic 1906 B.A. Riesner Bulding located at 900 Commerce St. in the heart of Houston's original downtown just steps from the site of Houston's founding, and we're holding a competition to choose an AIA architect to design our new home.
This competition seeks to arrive at a buildable solution for ArCH that will also be a public demonstration of the power of architectural design and sustainability. The primary goal is a space that is beautiful, functional, and sustainable. The design must accommodate the varied activities hosted at ArCH serving our members, visitors, and staff. Our goal is to produce an award-winning design that reflects the cutting edge of sustainable building design. We intend for the space to be widely published. The competition will be held in two stages with the winning design team awarded the right to negotiate the contract to design the 5,400SF storefront space.
CHARRETTE & SITE VISIT
All teams interested in participating in the competition are strongly encouraged to attend the site visit and charrette planned for April 23, 9AM-1PM, beginning at 900 Commerce with a site visit and continuing at ArCH for an ideas charrette. During the charrette, board members, staff, committee members and others will discuss their vision for the new ArCH and share ideas for using the space. Look for more information in AIA Friday.
