Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites you to a complimentary educational seminar and networking event at Magnolia Hotel in downtown Houston.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Resilient Enclosure Design Considerations for Texas and the Gulf Coast
Presented by Amrish K. Patel, P.E.
“Resiliency” is the latest buzzword in building design and construction, much like “green” has been in recent years. This focus is especially important in light of recent weather events that have impacted our built environment and communities. A key question is: what does a resilient building design entail and how does this affect our building enclosure designs? This presentation explores the definition and importance of resilience, with a specific focus on building enclosures. We will review past and present trends in construction codes, standards, and design guidelines that focus on resilience. The session will also review lessons learned from failure investigations and recovery assistance during previous natural disasters (including high wind, precipitation, flood, and hail) to explore design considerations for resilience in roof and facade systems.

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:
• Understand the definition and importance of resilience in building design.
• Recognize trends in code changes, with specific focus on wind, precipitation, flooding, and hail.
• Distinguish between design for resilience and conventional code-based design.
• Discuss strategies for resilience in roof and facade design.

Participants will earn
1.0 AIA CES Learning Unit (LU/HSW)
for their attendance.
