Brought to you by the ArCH Walking/Bicycle Tours

Rice University and Rice School of Architecture both celebrated their Centennial in 2012. A treasure trove of great architecture, the timeless campus features designs by Cram, Goodhue, & Ferguson; John Staub; William Ward Watkin; Michael Graves; Kieran Timberlake; Ricardo Bofill; Cesar Pelli; Lake/Flato Architects; and many other local and internationally renowned architects. Also on the tour are large scale art works by James Turrell and Michael Heizer. From Lovett Hall to Brochstein Pavilion, this tour will look at some of the more unique, hidden, important and historical features of Rice University's Campus. In addition to the architecture we will explore the context surrounding each building, the quads, courts and axes, how these elements work together to shape collegiate space.

Tour meets on the front lawn of Lovett Hall, building 1 on the Rice University map, 6100 Main. Recommended parking in Rice University Visitor Lovett Parking Lovett Lot (LS or LN) or Founder's Court (FC) Visitor's Lot. Credit card is required to access parking.

The safety of Architecture Center Houston’s visitors, volunteers and staff is our top priority. For the safety of our guests, ArCH docent-led walking tours are limited to a maximum of six attendees to allow for appropriate social distancing. All tour attendees are required to wear face coverings over both their mouth and nose at all times. BE ADVISED: Docents may choose not to wear a mask while speaking.

To ensure a touchless experience, tours tickets must be purchased in advance through the ArCH website. Unfortunately, walk-up attendees without reservations cannot be accommodated at this time.

Tour attendees may carry their own hand sanitizer to further adhere to the guidelines of public health officials regarding frequent hand sanitizing and thorough hand washing.

If you suspect that you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or may be experiencing symptoms of an infection, please err on the side of caution and DO NOT attend the tour. We will happily offer you a raincheck for a future tour.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is extremely contagious that can lead to severe illness or death. Tour attendees personally and voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. By confirming your reservation for any ArCH walking tour you acknowledge and accept that risk and agree to the following Safety Protocols:

  • Social distancing must be respected at all times.
  • Visitors are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
