Accessible housing is required by state and federal law for equal treatment and opportunity for persons with disabilities.  The accessibility laws and design standards create an environment that is usable, safe, and allows persons with disabilities to live independently in the community.

The seminar will provide an overview of both Federal and Texas accessibility Laws and Standards governing accessible housing including HUD Section 504 and the Fair Housing Act, the 2010 ADA Standards for housing, the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards, and the 2012 Texas Accessibility Standards.  The discussion will review the different laws and technical standards used for compliance for each law, the administering agencies, type of housing required to comply, and circumstances that trigger compliance.  The discussion will also include an overview of the technical requirements of the different standards.  Some of the facilities that will be discussed will be apartments, townhomes, condominiums, time-shares, and senior living facilities.
