The R+D Sessions: Leaders in Architectural Research

For more than a decade, Architect’s annual R+D Awards has identified leading examples of architectural research in the material sciences, building construction and performance, digital design and fabrication, and other areas. The program celebrates investigations, products, and buildings as developed by nonprofits, schools, manufacturers, architects, and designers.The  R+D Sessions will bring together masterminds behind recent and past winners of the award, in four cities across the United States, to share their latest initiatives and findings in architectural research.

The first session on April 19 in Houston features past winners Joe Meppelink and Andrew Vrana of Metalab.

Only in Houston is a tribute to our city. Houston is home to the country's largest manufacturing workforce, is a city with a can-do attitude and a culturally diverse population that is quietly doing good work. It also may be the only place in the country that can support our practice. Our talk will focus on the mutual idiosyncrasies and unique capacities that we share with our city in pursuit of interdisciplinary design work across the genres of architecture, product design, and civic art.
