No material has made a greater contribution to the design and construction of city skylines than structural steel. Join Architecture Center Houston and Buffalo Bayou Partnership for a boat tour along the bayou exploring the many ways this material has shaped Houston’s built environment.

The tour begins at Allen’s Landing, Houston’s original port, and travels west towards the Waugh Street bridge. We’ll look at internationally recognized architectural icons from the skyscraper boom including Pennzoil Place and Chase Tower. Marvel at Houston artist Mel Chin’s 70-foot-tall Seven Wonders sculptures, and sail under the Carruth, Jackson Hill, and Rosemont Bridges.

The tour embarks from the Sunset Coffee Building at Allen's Landing (1019 Commerce Street). Metered street parking is available along Commerce Street and surrounding streets.

This program is held in conjunction with the partILLATION: Visions in Steel exhibition which is a collection of photography and video that illuminate steel in the built environment. The exhibition was on view through Friday December 9 at Architecture Center Houston.

This program is sponsored by American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
