Lauren Griffith Associates led a multi-disciplinary team of landscape architects, architects, interior designers, kitchen designers, lighting designers and engineers in creating this urban park on ¾ block in southern downtown Houston.
Join Lauren Griffith, FASLA and Ryan Marchesi, AIA of Gensler on a tour of Houston's newest green space. The whimsical downtown oasis is owned and operated by the Downtown Redevelopment Authority. The goal was to create a “third place” for working and playing. Targeting the young residents in the surrounding apartments, the program includes a café with indoor and outdoor seating, lawn with stage/trellis pavilion for special events, dog parks for large and small dogs with trellis, and gardens.
A temporary art installation creates a welcoming gateway at the northwest corner. Playful sculptures invite interaction in the center of the park and a flowing line of large Live Oaks curves through the L-shaped space, stitching the two wings together.
Tour meets in the garden at the corner of Fannin and Leeland.
