Brought to you by the Urban Design Committee

This is Vision for the City of Houston through the eyes of Houston’s Council Members Gonzalez and Costello, two of Houston’s most ardent proponents for smart growth, urban revitalization, public parks and transportation.

Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Gonzalez is an 18 year veteran of the Houston Police Department and is passionate about Houston’s role as the leading global city of the 21st century. Council Member Gonzalez chairs the city’s Public Safety Committee and co-chaired the ParksByYou initiative with State Senator Rodney Ellis is 2012. He believes that an active community is a safe community and has been a tireless advocate for complete streets on Houston City Council.

Council Member Costello, a civil engineer, has worked for 30 years on storm water management and flooding issues.  He led support for the passage of the ReBuild Houston program, a pay-as-you-go model for repairing and replacing Houston’s aging street and drainage infrastructure. He also serves as vice chair of the Transportation Policy Council of the Houston-Galveston Area Council, which provides policy guidance and overall coordination of the transportation planning activities within the region.  Further, as a tri-athlete and longtime board member of the Memorial Park Conservancy, Costello understands how parks improve physical health, strengthen communities,  and make our city a more attractive place to live and work.
