Brought to you by the Women in Architecture

Women make up 42% of graduates from programs accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board, but are only 28% of architectural staffs, and just 17% of principals and partners in architecture firms. In her frank, lively, and accessible book, "Where Are the Women Architects", Despina Stratigakos examines past and present hurtles faced by women in the profession of architecture, and explores how that impacts both women and the field itself. As a leading researcher and educator, Despina shares her commanding breadth of knowledge on the history of women in architecture with cunning perspective and delightful humor. Join us for a reading of selected portions of her book, followed by a discussion and a chance to meet the author. Copies of the book are available for purchase at Brazos Bookstore. Refreshments are generously provided by Brazos Bookstore and Florence & Hans Tang. Additional Sponsorship is provided by Paradigm and Alpha Testing. For more information please visit the AIA Houston Website.

Despina Stratigakos is associate professor and interim chair of architecture at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. She is the co-creator of Architect Barbie, and author of Hitler at Home and A Woman's Berlin: Building the Modern City.
