Design Technology Manager

Lake | Flato Architects is currently seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Design Technology Manager. Lake | Flato is embarking on a multi-year initiative to establish itself as a thought leader in the application of design technologies to the design of a sustainably built environment.
The Design Technology Manager is a new position and will work as a key participant in the Technology Beam, Lake Flato’s multi-disciplinary leadership group that governs the formulation of technology approach at the firm. The mission of the Technology Beam is to leverage research and emerging technologies to continuously improve the firm’s design process. This new position will oversee the firm-wide implementation of digital design and production platforms, research and introduce new design technologies, develop and curate best practices, manage standards and lead training efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the design, simulation, and document production process as well as an ability to develop and disseminate new working methodologies to facilitate the firm’s cross-platform design studios.

Responsibilities

Position Description
• Oversee and maintain the office-wide Design Technology and Revit BIM systems
• Coordinate the development and maintenance of BIM standards, content, best practices and documentation
• Provide leadership to the firm’s Revit Core Group to address real-time needs of project teams to improve team performance
• Ensure that project models are set-up and maintained according to firm standards
• Develop, coordinate and lead on-going application training
• Investigate, test and deploy new digital design tools for firm-wide implementation
• Provide support for Design Technology related needs and document known issues and promote best practices
• Work with the Technology Beam to develop and implement objectives for firm-wide technology use
• Engage with firm leadership and project teams to develop innovative solutions to enhancing the practice of architecture
• Work with project managers and firm leadership to assist in the development of contract provisions that appropriately address Design Technology within the context of project delivery

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
• 5-10 years of experience in architecture or related design and construction field
• Bachelor’s degree in design, technology, or related field preferred
• Advanced knowledge of BIM tools (Autodesk Revit)
• Experience using advanced design technology techniques for the delivery of complex projects
• Strong skills in developing flexible, agile design modelling solutions to assist an iterative design process
• Knowledge of Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk 3ds Max
• Advanced knowledge of parametric design tools (Rhino, Grasshopper, and Dynamo) particularly to optimize designs for sustainable goals
• Autodesk Inventor, Autolisp, Visual Basic and Script Writing preferred
• Experience in customizing the Autodesk Revit API preferred
• Experience in architecture or related design field preferred
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrated leadership and management abilities
