Managing Principal, MultiFamily

Webber + Studio is seeking a candidate with thorough and advanced knowledge of architectural operations and the leadership experience necessary to manage an entire team to success in quality and contractual outcomes.

The Managing Principal compensation within the pay range considers licensure, additional education, performance and tenure.

We are looking for someone to inject experience and expertise into our growing team for MultiFamily projects. We are growing through referrals on prior successful projects and are being asked to do more and do bigger. We want someone to grow our team to meet this demand. This person will be great at supervising contracts, proposals, sales, management processes and procedures, and teams. Through experience the Managing Principal will be able to develop architectural processes to be more efficient.

Our MultiFamily projects vary, ranging from build-to-rent communities to condominium for resale to larger mixed-use apartment complexes. We design single family and townhome subdivisions with multiple hundred of lots, and we do denser apartment complexes within the city (but not high-rise design). We also design light commercial, boutique hospitality, tenant finish out in high profile environments like the Four Seasons Hotel.

As a company in the MultiFamily/Commercial space we need to provide guidance on zoning, code research and highest and best use analysis. We need to improve our level of sophistication with client sales and communications and improve our use of tools. The Managing Principal will drive these changes and train the team and appoint staff as needed.

Licensed architect or other licensed design professional with direct oversight for a market sector, discipline, department or office, who establishes and implements goals and objectives, develops and promotes the firm’s values and long-range plans, positions the firm for growth and ensures profitability.

Responsible for establishing overall goals and objectives and coordinating implementation plans. In conjunction with other senior leaders, is responsible for realization of profits compatible with interests of clients and the firm. Develops and promotes the firm’s vision, mission, core values, and long-range plans. Oversees and controls operations and activities to promote achievement of the firm’s objectives. Implements policies established by the board. Participates in creating and positioning the firm to take advantage of opportunities for growth and marketplace expansion. Ensures profitability, quality enhancement, and professional development. May be responsible for some of the tasks of the Director of Human Resources at small to mid-size firms.


Supervisory Leadership - Managing Principal will supervise, delegate work to and train Project Managers; as such the Managing Principal is expected to have over ten years of experience. Generally overseeing a minimum of 2-3 direct reports. Has some hiring and training responsibilities for new staff and should participate in helping staff achieve career goals.
Ascension - Reports to the Board of Directors. Growth will be in the size and scope of the team under supervision.
Workload - Target a minimum of fifteen team projects in phases Predesign through Construction Documentation plus projects that have phased into Bidding & Negotiation or Construction Contract Administration.

The Managing Principal will exercise a large amount of autonomy in running a department (currently +Studio or MultiFamily) in all aspects of goal setting, contract administration, budgeting and scheduling management and personnel management.
This position has access to the Director of Operations and Director of Design for technical, design and leadership advice. This position is also supported by the business administration staff and infrastructure.
The Managing Principal will lead securing projects efforts for department projects (meeting with clients and establishing initial information for proposal estimate), incorporate the initial information into the scope document exhibit, prepare the proposal and contract, create or review and approve the agenda for the milestone presentation meetings, along with the updated scope document.


Licensure - Licensed from TBAE for the State of Texas (or eligibility and willingness to pursue)


Webber + Studio is a studio firm offering primarily full service contracts and as such our designers are all expected to work on projects from start to finish and through all phases of architecture. Studio employment assumes you are invested in growing in your role and responsibilities over time. Our studio works on residential, commercial and multi-family projects, and typically a staff member will focus on one of these areas.

Standard Office Hours 8:30am - 6:30pm, Mon-Fri Majority of work is performed in office; must be legally available to work in the US. The office is an open floor plan. We provide stand up desk options, a kitchen with refrigerator and countertop oven, and parking.
Transportation and Workspace Required Staff will need to be able to drive to client meetings and perform site visits. Mileage is reimbursed.
Physical Requirements Required Periodic physical activities related to procuring materials and architectural samples, and to maintaining/organizing the office library and archive may be required. Employee should be able to perform these duties themselves or be able to make suitable arrangements for these duties to be performed.
Software Preferred Experience with ArchiCAD is strongly preferred; Apple iOS, Numbers and Pages; Google Gmail and Drive; Synology file system; Monograph project management.
Language English/Spanish Bilingual candidates will be given preference.
US Construction Standards Required Candidate must have at least one year of US based construction standards design experience (US methods, measurement and permitting exposure).

Credentials Required Bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited program.
