Project Architect/ Urban Designer
The organization seeks an experienced Architect/ Urban Designer with a background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and project management. This position will be dedicated to the TxDOT North Houston Highway Improvement Plan (NHHIP) project and the civic opportunities to be constructed in coordination with the highway project. This full-time position reports to the Director of Planning & Urban Design.
-Acts as a liaison between TxDOT and a broad group of stakeholders to facilitate quality aesthetic and environmental design of the highway project.
-Able to bring design excellence and offer suggestions to elevate the quality of the highway project within the established budget.
-Works with in-house staff and external consulting team to create schematic concept designs for separate civic opportunities for streets, sidewalks, structures, parks, trails, detention basins, bridges and other public amenities to be independently funded but constructed by others in coordination with the highway project.
-Able to bring parties together to envision solutions to complex issues and bridge diverse points of view.
-Acts to provide quality control to make sure the stakeholders’ collective vision translates to the TxDOT design drawings throughout the design-build process.
-Participates in the stakeholder engagement process to develop the civic opportunities and amenity package associated with the highway project.
-Responsible for regular updates to the Mayor’s Steering Committee on project progress.
-Professional Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, or Landscape Architecture.
-At least 10 years of experience in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture and project management.
-Outstanding leadership and communication skills.
-Prior experience in working with TxDOT and large scale infrastructure projects strongly preferred.
-Must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to read/ analyze design and construction documents.
-Must exhibit a professional manner and demeanor in interactions with co-workers, board members, government officials, partner agencies and the general public.
-Strong familiarity with the greater Houston area and downtown a plus.
