Over the last year, I have lead the design for a very important competition that was near and dear to my heart. As a Jamaican-American, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in a global competition to design the new Houses of Parliament in Kingston Jamaica. The competition was sponsored by the Jamaican urban Development Corporation on behalf of the Government of Jamaica.

It was amazing to have been selected a top five finalist in last October's announcement of the Stage 1 shortlisted design teams. The competition chair was no other than Gordon Gill of AS+GG of Chicago. Stage 2 of the competition which ended on December 18, 2018 comprised of a juror selection of the overall winning team as well as a public People's Choice selection. Our team "Out of Many, One People" also the motto of the country took top prize in both categories finishing ahead of teams lead by Sir David Adjaye amongst others.

As a architect who came to America from a very small country town in the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica, this undoubtedly is one of the most significant achievements of my career. I have practiced in Detroit, Chicago, Houston and Myanmar. I believe all these significant practice experiences played a role in the final design aesthetic and approach.

Furthermore as a small design studio launched in 2016 after returning from practice in southeast Asia, this is a significant boost to the practice.

As the prime ministered noted, this will be the most significant building in the history of the country.
