Shepley Bulfinch architects announced today that Bailey Architects of Houston has joined their growing national design practice. Adding a Houston office gives Shepley Bulfinch a strong presence in Texas, where significant growth is projected in the healthcare and education sectors, and greater visibility in Houston, one of the country’s fastest-growing cities.

Bailey Architects is now the Houston office of Shepley Bulfinch. The acquisition cements a long-standing relationship that spans more than a decade. Shepley Bulfinch and Bailey have worked together on a series of projects in Texas, including renovation and master planning for Fondren Library at Rice University and two major biomedical science buildings for the University of Houston. The Health and Biomedical Science Building 2 is scheduled to break ground later this year.

Shepley Bulfinch president Carole Wedge said, “Having the Bailey team join us is a great fit all around. We look forward to taking our collaboration to a new level as we pursue new opportunities as one firm.”

Bailey Architects president Ray Leiker, “This is a bold move for us and a benefit for our clients across Texas. This combines Bailey’s 40-year history of design excellence with Shepley Bulfinch’s passion for design and national reputation for delivering complex projects for the country’s leading healthcare and higher education institutions.”

This is the third office for Shepley Bulfinch, which is headquartered in Boston and established a Phoenix office in 2009. The firm’s first project in Texas was Dallas Hall, which marked the start of the Southern Methodist University campus when it was completed in 1911.
