Civic Vision Award - Susan Rogers

10/17/2022

The AIA Houston Civic Vision Award honors an individual who has significantly improved the quality of life in Houston through influence on the built environment. University of Houston College Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design professor Susan Rogers has had an enormous impact on our city. She believes that establishing partnerships where designers work side by side with community members is the foundation for visionary and positive change. Her work and the values that underpin it are reinforced by the mission of the CDRC: “to work collaboratively with community partners to define, develop, and apply transformation design strategies that bring us closer to a more just and equitable city at every scale.” Since 2005 the CDRC has worked in 38 of Houston’s Super Neighborhoods, many more than once. She has forged partnerships with 30 civic or community-based organizations, 8 non-profit organizations, and 12 government agencies or management districts over the last 18 years. In addition, The CDRC has provided paid positions and mentorship to 43 design students. For her work combining the disciplines of architecture, design, planning, community development, social practice, and activism it is an honor to award the 2022 AIA Houston Civic Vision Award to Susan Rogers.
