FKP Advisors Adds New Senior Consultant: Former Texas Children’s Hospital Executive Sandy McElligott Joins Healthcare

According to FKP Architects’ integrated design mission statement, architecture is about “more than buildings.” The firm’s recent hire of Sandy McElligott, MBA, RN, NE-BC into the FKP Advisors consulting practice illustrates that distinction. McElligott’s 26 years of healthcare delivery with Texas Children’s Hospital, where she held positions ranging from Staff Nurse to Senior Vice President, will expand FKP Advisors’ substantive knowledge of trends, drivers, and success factors transforming pediatric healthcare design.

McElligott spent the past six years working in women’s, fetal, and newborn health delivery. Most recently, she was responsible for successfully administrating the opening of the new 15-story, $575-million Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women designed by FKP Architects. McElligott ensured key policies and procedures were created to support safe patient care and facility transition, clinical staff training using in situ simulation, and workflow testing in the new environment prior to opening.

McElligott also demonstrated clinical and administrative leadership in the development and execution of several strategic initiatives. The most recent initiative involved developing the institution’s perinatal strategy for high-risk obstetrics, including start-up of the new Fetal Center. McElligott was responsible for the Fetal Center’s clinical and operational program development, as well as the development of the comprehensive medical team consisting of maternal fetal medicine, pediatric surgery, fetal cardiology and fetal radiology.

Earlier in her career, McElligott developed several community-based strategies across greater Houston, including clinical leadership for strategic planning, development, and operation of the neonatal strategy. Her responsibilities included program and business development, oversight of hospital management agreements, contract negotiations, marketing, clinical consultation, and medical and nursing education coordination. Other community-based initiatives included the successful opening and management of pediatric services at the St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital as well as the medical clinic located inside The Children’s Assessment Center.

“We are ecstatic to include another former client as one of our own,” says Diane Osan, Chairman and Chief Visionary Officer for FKP. “Sandy’s hands-on knowledge and proven leadership in the healthcare and pediatrics space will be invaluable as a partner to other top-tier health institutions who desire to operate more strategically and exceed their patient care goals.”

McElligott is an alumnus of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where she received her bachelor degree in nursing, and she received her master’s in business administration from Texas A&M University in 2008. She is a member of The American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. McElligott is also an active trustee for the Good Samaritan Foundation.
