FKP Architects Hires Specifications Expert

James Sandoz, AIA, AIA, CCS, CCCA recently rejoined FKP Architects as Specifications Manager. He is a licensed architect with over two decades of experience in the Houston architecture community, including several institutional projects with construction budgets ranging from $5 million to over $500 million. He has more than six years’ experience preparing written specifications and participating in document coordination efforts for a variety of healthcare and bio-medical research projects.

Sandoz maintains memberships in the AIA and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He holds CSI’s Certified Construction Specifier and Certified Construction Contract Administrator certifications and is also a member of the AIA Houston Chapter’s Building Enclosure Council.

For FKP, Sandoz will maintain the firm’s master specifications, oversee the preparation of project manuals in multiple offices, follow the progress of individual projects to assure compliance with specifications, and assist project architects in balancing design and efficiency. He will also work to create in-house programs to advance the technical knowledge and careers of architecture interns.

Recently, Sandoz served as a Senior Associate and Architectural Projects Director with Zero/Six Consulting in Galveston, Texas. In this role, he defined departmental objectives, policies, and procedures for the architectural services component of the firm. He established an organizational structure, communicated criteria and objectives to the project team, and served as the primary point of contact with owners, contractors and other project participants.

Previously, Sandoz worked with a national commercial developer to create and maintain their specifications. Sandoz is an alumnus of the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Texas Lutheran University.
