FKP-Designed CHOC Children’s Hospital Celebrates Substantial Completion

10/01/2012 | FKP Architects

FKP Architects recently celebrated with CHOC Children’s Hospital as the design and construction team marked substantial completion of the hospital’s new tower.

The Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s new tower embodies the institution’s vision to become a national hallmark for pediatric care. The 8-story, 425,000 sf inpatient building consolidates all formerly dispersed diagnostic and treatment functions into one best-in-class facility. The design centered upon the creation of a visually stimulating and functionally responsive icon to express vibrant spirit, progressive vision and a world-class sense of place.  Wrapped in a multi-colored glass skin, accented with colorful metal panels and highlighted by a vertical beacon, the tower is a dominant yet inviting presence.

Other team members include contractor, McCarthy Building Companies; construction manager, Jacobs; associate architect, WBSA; interior designer, Inventure Design; structural and MEP engineer, TMAD Taylor & Gaines; civil engineer, Thomsen Engineering; curtain wall consultant, JA Weir Associates; Lighting Design Alliance; and landscape designer, Cathcart/Begin Associates.
