FKP Principal Cynthia D. Walston Elevated to AIA Fellowship

FKP Architects is proud to announce the elevation of Cynthia D. Walston, FAIA, LEED AP to The College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects. Cynthia was selected for elevation for her significant contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture and specifically for her achievements in laboratory and educational environment design.

The leader of the Science and Education practice group at FKP, Cynthia is nationally known for propelling research and science education design and mentoring her peers to keep raising the bar. Her work has garnered national, regional and local accolades including esteemed recognition from R&D Magazine’s Laboratory of the Year competition for her innovation at Texas Children’s Hospital Feigin Center. A graduate of The University of Texas, Cynthia received a career honor as one of only 28 alumni showcased in the School of Architecture’s 2010 centennial legacy retrospective, “Traces and Trajectories.”

Her recent projects include a new laboratory and office building for Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio; phase one of a new medical school campus for Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan, Texas; Rice University BioScience Research Collaborative in Houston; and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Rockefeller Cancer Institute in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Fellowship program was developed to elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level. The 2013 AIA Jury of Fellows elevated 122 AIA members to its prestigious College of Fellows. Out of a total AIA membership of over 80,000 there are over 3,000 members distinguished with this honor. Cynthia and the other 2013 Fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the national AIA Convention in June.
