A two-story retail space which formerly housed a Borders bookstore has been transformed into a neighborhood clinic for Kelsey-Seybold in Houston, Texas. The opening of the 72,000-square-foot Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Meyerland Plaza, designed by PageSoutherlandPage, was officially celebrated on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

Located in the Meyerland Plaza shopping center, the renovation of the former bookstore provides Kelsey-Seybold with a storefront image and provides patients with easy access to physicians in nine medical specialties, along with an in-house pharmacy and services such as labs and x-rays. The clinic has been designed to accommodate ultrasound, digital mammography and DEXA (for measuring bone mineral density), if needed.

Embracing the Kelsey-Seybold pod module concept, the design creates a flexible working model that provides clear wayfinding for staff and patients. The interior provides a soothing patient experience with comfortable hospitality-like seating and abundant daylight in the public areas. The floor plan provides more than 72 10’x12’ exam rooms and 30 provider offices, some of which can be converted to exam rooms, and others that can convert to shared offices, if more clinical space is needed. Clinical space comprises 45,000 square feet, while 27,000 square feet are dedicated to centralized medical records.

“It’s remarkable to see how this space has transformed over the past eight or nine months – from an empty shell to a beautiful new clinic designed with our patients in mind,” said Nicholas Solomos, M.D., Managing Physician of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – Meyerland Plaza.

PageSoutherlandPage provided planning, architecture, interiors and MEP engineering for the Meyerland Clinic. The firm also designed Houston-area Kelsey-Seybold clinics in Cinco Ranch and Downtown at The Shops at Houston Center, as well as additions to Kelsey-Seybold’s Holcombe campus. Gamma Construction Company was the general contractor for the Meyerland project.
