Page Expands Planning, Urban Design Capabilities

12/09/2014 | Page

Page, a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm, announces that it has expanded its urban design and urban / campus planning capabilities through the acquisition of BMS Design Group, a consulting firm in San Francisco. Their areas of expertise include urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture. Additionally, Dan Kenney, an award-winning architect and master campus / site planner with four decades of experience, will join Page in the new office.

These strategic moves will also advance Page’s planning service capabilities in transit-related projects, waterfronts and streetscapes across all its offices. In turn, Page will offer architectural, engineering, interior design and strategic consulting to West Coast clients. This also means Page now has offices in every time zone across the continental United States.

Page shares a commitment to placemaking at an urban and environmental scale with BMS co-founders Barbara Maloney and Michael Smiley, and with Dan Kenney, formerly of Sasaki Associates Inc. Maloney and Kenney, who join Page as principals, also share a long-standing commitment and record of success in planning and design for higher education. Kenney is reuniting with former colleague Michael Smiley, an international urban designer, who will serve as Page Principal Emeritus. The three will lead the San Francisco office and expand the planning services across all Page offices.

Collectively, Kenney, Maloney and Smiley have worked on award-winning projects across North America, Europe and Asia that include hundreds of higher education campuses and urban master plans. Notable projects include the world-renown Embarcadero revitalization; the University of California Mission Bay Master Plan Update; the Singapore University of Technology and Design Master Plan; and the University of Texas at Austin Medical District Master Plan on which Page also collaborated.

Other Page specialty planning, urban design and landscape architecture projects include the Gold Coast City Master Plan in Accra, Ghana; the Universidad de Monterrey Master Plan and updates in Mexico and the award-winning Lanzhou City Urban Plan in China. The transition will be seamless for existing clients and provide them with additional services and capabilities.

Page welcomes these new leaders and their design teams to the firm. Examples of their work in these areas can be found on pagethink.com under Work: Planning. Page will continue to collaborate with other firms on large, complex projects around the world and leverage the expertise of its newest employees to further extend the firm’s vision of making lives better through design.
