Staff Update re: COVID-19

Dear Friends,

What our staff team at AIA Houston most wants you to know in this moment – in the midst of these unprecedented times – is that our focus remains on you.

AIA Houston is an association that exists to do together, as an architecture community, what individual members and firms cannot do as easily or as well on their own. This purpose very often manifests as convenings – continuing education sessions, committee and knowledge community meetings, leadership trainings, networking gatherings, and events that grow the public’s understanding that architecture is a vital profession that has the power to transform people and communities for the better.

These convenings will need to change for the near term. In the interest of the health and safety of our staff and members, the AIA Houston staff will begin working from home as of Monday, March 16 at 5:00pm. We will work remotely at least until Monday, June 1. The staff will remain available by email. See a list of staff emails below. Calls will be more challenging. As you may recall, due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey, we have been in temporary space at HOK. The leadership of AIAH and HOK will monitor the situation to determine when we can safely and responsibly return to the office.

Events will be temporarily suspended during the months of March and April. Some events, such as walking tours and CE classes have been cancelled. Other events are in the process of being rescheduled. Some programs and committee meetings may remain operational as webinars or conference calls. If you are currently registered for an event or program, please check our calendar to confirm program status. We will follow up with event registrants via email and refunds will be issued for cancelled events. 

The boards of both AIA Houston and Architecture Center Houston will continue to monitor the COVID 19 situation and we will update the website and our social media accounts regarding our plans to re-open. During this time, connect with us on social media at the links provided below. We will continue to be in touch via AIA Friday, email, social media, and on our website with updates.

Let us know if there are ways AIA can be supportive and responsive to you during this crisis and beyond, and ways that we can offer knowledge, resources, and connectedness through our strong professional community.
