Stantec’s Laura Sachtleben, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, was recently selected as one of the nation’s top young professionals by Engineering News Record (ENR), an A/E/C industry publication. The Top 20 Under 40 list recognizes individuals for their industry experience, leadership, and community service and involvement.

Sachtleben is a principal architect and Houston-area market leader within Stantec’s Education group, as well as the leader of the firm’s Research and Benchmarking Program. Considered a thought leader in educational design, she has given seminars on innovative and sustainable designs nationwide. She also served on the Texas Collaborative for High Performance Schools (TX-CHPS) Advisory Committee to help create a sustainability rating system that aims to improve student performance and educational experiences by building the best possible learning environments with the smallest impact on the planet.

“It is such an honor for Laura to receive this recognition reflecting the commitment, passion, and energy she brings to our projects at Stantec,” says Tom Oehler, vice president and education sector leader for Stantec’s South Central region. “We are so proud of her leadership and how she is making a difference in the communities we serve.”

Sachtleben received her Master of Architecture from Tulane University. She is a Registered Architect (RA) in the State of Texas and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C). Of recent note, she led the design team for the Robert R. Shaw Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), a districtwide learning environment that aims to catalyze dynamic relationships across Katy Independent School District (KISD) through the intersection of creative students, passionate teachers, and fully engaged mentors. The nationally recognized facility supports KISD’s robust robotics program and provides additional project space for students engaged in STEAM courses and activities.

Stantec has offices throughout Texas that include professionals providing services in: architecture and interior design; civil, structural, and MEP engineering; surveying; land planning and landscape architecture; transportation; and water and wastewater engineering.
