Healthcare Seminar Exhibit & Social (SES)
February 19, 2015
The Denton A. Cooley, MD and Ralph C. Cooley, DDS University Life Center:
7440 Cambridge Street
Houston, Texas 77054
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statics through of July of 2014 the Houston metro area has added more than 2 jobs for every 1 lost during the recession. This growth outpaces the next metro area (Dallas) by about 50% and by this metric no other metropolitan area has grown as robustly as Houston.
We have all seen evidence of this rapid growth in the construction cranes that punctuate the city’s skyline. It seems as if we have gotten the first item in Franklin’s axiom established. But the second, progress, is a more elusive and difficult to measure. What does it mean to progress in an era of growth? The 2015 SES will examine the idea of growth in the healthcare industry, growth in the construction industry, and growth in the urban fabric. Together, we will discuss the ways in which we can manage the expansion, and to get not only bigger but better in the process.
The SES, provides an opportunity for education and networking to members of the architectural and healthcare communities. The SES will include a happy hour, seminar and panel discussion focusing on this new era of growth in the Healthcare Industry. The Committee on Architecture for Health will also be sponsoring a walking tour of the Texas Medical Center. And building on the success from previous years, the SES will also include a student design competition where teams of architecture students propose a solution to a healthcare architecture related design challenge.
