2020 MGMC Scholarship Winners
Six High School students were awarded with $10,000 in college tuition scholarships. This year was especially challenging for students, with changes associated with remote learning and limited access to resources. The jury and committee were impressed with the amount of consideration and time put into each application, and appreciated the students adding their voices to the 2030 Challenge. Each year the competition is open to Houston area high school students and hosted by Architecture Center Houston in partnership with the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The architecture design competition emphasizes creative problem solving and graphic presentation. This year students were challenged to design a new education center that focuses on educating the public about sustainable efforts and practices. The new education center will be located at the crux of Buffalo Bayou and the Second Ward. They were given from January 25 to May 8 to design and complete their entries. To help the students learn basic architectural skills and understand the competition requirements the MGMC Committee hosted a competition workshop and a project site tour. In previous years students have been asked to design an animal shelter, a soccer stadium, a high speed rail station and a theater.
