The Menil Park Community Living
The Michael G. Meyers Design & Scholarship Competition will be fully online in 2021.
This annual event is an ideas competition with an emphasis on creative problem solving and graphic presentation. It is sponsored by Architecture Center Houston Foundation, AIA Houston, and local architectural firms and affiliates.
In previous years students have been asked to design an education center with a focus on sustainability, a multipurpose building for Houston’s Third Ward, a soccer stadium, a museum, and many other challenging projects.
This year, the design solution for the MGMC is to design a Mixed-Use Living Community in Houston, Tx. The building will have two main components; Housing Units and Community Spaces. Housing Units are typically private and for one family, while community spaces serve as amenities for the residents and public alike. Think about how these two elements balance each other out and blend into the fabric of the neighborhood. There is also an exterior site requirement to provide green space for the community. This new Mixed-Use Living Community will be located in the heart of Houston’s Montrose Neighborhood, adjacent to the Menil campus.
The Competition Committee will host a series of events to help the students learn basic architectural drawing skills and understand the competition requirements. The winners will be announced in May and an awards ceremony will be held.
All Houston area high school students are eligible to participate regardless of class affiliation or age. Entrants are requested to enter only once per year as a member of a team or as an individual. Teachers and Counselors are encouraged to promote this scholarship competition.
