Deadline for submittals: September 1
Award Ceremony: September 21
Each year AIA Houston honors design excellence by Houston architects or projects constructed in the Houston area. Each year, more than 100 projects are submitted for awards in the categories of architecture greater than 50,000 sq. ft., architecture smaller than 50,000 sq. ft., residential architecture, interior architecture, restoration/renovation, urban design and unbuilt projects. An awards event is held to announce the winners and present their awards that is typically attended by more than 200 people. All winning entries are displayed during an exhibit at the Architecture Center. The exhibit remains on display for 6 weeks. All award submissions are printed in a special publication distributed each year for no cost to all firms who enter and for a nominal cost to AIA Houston members.
The awards event, publication, and exhibition are all publicized to all 2000 AIAH members, to students at three local architecture schools and to the nearly 2,000 AIAH aliate members. Additionally, AIA Houston distributes press releases announcing the winning projects to all media outlets in the Houston area. The winners are also typically printed in Texas Architect Magazine.
